COLOR THEORY | Rose Quartz & Serenity: Pantone Color(s) of 2016

By now, I'm sure you've heard the news that Pantone named not one, but two colors as the official color of 2016: Rose Quartz, a gentle and romantic pink, and Serenity, a cool and airy light blue.

Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director at Pantone Color Institute, said the color duo was chosen to "demonstrate an inherenent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace." The Pantone site also touched on the gender blur in fashion, as well as movements towards gender equality and fluidity in society at large, as motivating factors in choosing both colors.

From a designer's perspective, I personally love this year's color selection. Pastels have been trending for a while now and I feel, as a whole, we are all embracing calmer and cleaner design aesthetics as of late. I think the Rose Quartz and Serenity hues, in particular, feel so fresh and uplifting. They also work well with so many design styles and mix so beautifully with other colors. (More on that later.)

Do you love Rose Quartz and Serenity as much as I do? Here are a few pieces to help add these colors into your life this year.
