One of the best perks that has come along with blogging this past year is that I've gotten to meet a lot of talented local designers. Columbus is overflowing with creative talent, and one of my goals this year with the blog is to start highlighting more designers and artists that are creating amazing work.
I first met Erica, of the Erica Dawn Woodmore label, when we were paired up as a fashion designer/costume designer team for the Costume Couture Showdown for Highball Halloween, an outdoor runway event showcasing local designers...image sources: 1 | 2 | 3

I caught up with her recently at her Spring '14 preview at Kifle Shoe Boutique, where she showed a different side to her brand with the introduction of bright colors and bold prints. Her spring collection focuses on being more affordable and wearable on a day-to-day basis for the modern woman, featuring lots of stretch and jersey knits that can be thrown into a suitcase or gym bag and still emerge looking polished.
And this, in general, is the focus of the EDW brand, which is designed to fit the lifestyle of the very chic, on-the-go woman. Taking easy-care quality into consideration, Erica designs separates that easily mix and match within the EDW collection as well as with other brands.
Her main focus, Erica says, "has truly been on the business of fashion: how to make my runway aesthetic translate to everyday life in an accessible price range". She is currently preparing for a showcase/trunk show in Atlanta, GA in March featuring her Spring '14 line as well as working on her custom business. As for future goals, Erica says, "I love mentoring and find it hugely important to pay it forward, so I would like to own a boutique with small seasonal capsules of my own, as well as feature up-and-coming designers in a mentoring setting that would help to develop their small business."
Pieces from the Erica Dawn Woodmore collection can be purchased locally at Kifle Shoe Boutique in the Short North, or by contacting Erica via her website or social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram). And online sales will soon be available upon the completion of her Spring '14 line!
I hope you all like the new Designer Spotlight series! If you have any suggestions on designers or artists you would like to see covered, let me hear them in the comments or on Facebook!
