Local Love...October in Columbus

I really hope you guys love Halloween as much as I do, because StyleOnHigh is about to get taken over with Halloween overload! From costume and makeup ideas to home décor DIY projects, I'm pretty excited to say it's going to be non-stop holiday fun around this neck of the woods. So if you love Halloween, you are in the right place, because you can expect lots to come all this month! And if you love Halloween and live in or around Central Ohio, you are really in luck, because Columbus is the ultimate place to be for Halloween events! Read on for all the holiday fun, as well as some other awesome non-Halloween events (Columbus Fashion Week, anyone?) going on around you this month...  

September 12-November 16: Shadowbox Live: Nightmare on Front StreetUntitled-1

A sketch comedy and rock & roll show full of ghosts, goblins, and ghouls brought to you by the uber-talented performers of Shadowbox Live. Find out more about the show that's said to "make you scream with delight," here. Tickets are $30 for adults and $20 for seniors, students, and military.

October 6: Columbus Flea's Fall Flea

An awesome day of shopping to support local artisans- handmade jewelry, repurposed furniture, vintage clothing, and more!- at Seventh Sons Brewing Company 11 am- 5 pm. Admission is free to the open-air market and proceeds from the event go to support the Mid-Ohio Foodbank. Find out more information about the event and the individual vendors here.

October 6- October 13: Columbus Fashion Week

ColumbusInOctober_CMHFashionWeekThe fashion highlight of the year in Central Ohio features an entire week of exclusive events starting with a High Fashion Tea on Sunday at the Columbus Museum of Art and ending with the Finale Runway Show featuring the area's brightest up-and-coming designers. October 18-20 and 25-27: Boo at the Zoo

A "merry-not-scary" annual event that is fun for the whole family at The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. With attractions such as the Little Boo Monster Maze, a special Halloween seek-and-find featuring the scariest animals of the zoo, and caramel apples and kettle corn treat stations, the event will surely be a hit with the whole family. Admission is free with regular zoo admission, and those prices and more information can be found here.

 October 21: Emeli Sande at Newport Music Hall

Catch the beautiful and talented Brit singer, Emeli Sande, known for her top singles such as "Heaven," "Next to Me," and "Beneath Your Beautiful." Previously touring in support with Solange Knowles, Sande will now headline at Newport Music Hall. Admission is $28.50 and more information can be found here.

October 25-26: Highball Halloween Masquerade on High ColumbusInOctober_HighballMasquerade

The high fashion Halloween block party features two action packed days of fantastic costume fun. Events range from the fierce, such as the Costume Couture Fashion Showdown, featuring local professional fashion and costume designers (including yours truly!), to the funny, like Dogtober Howl-O-Ween, which showcases the best-dressed pets in town. October 29: The Pretty Reckless at A&R Music Bar

See little Jenny Humphrey live in the flesh when Taylor Momsen and her band, The Pretty Reckless, take the stage at A&R Bar. Heaven's Basement and Louna will be opening and admission is only $15. More information here.

October 31: Halloween Blackout

Wishful Thinking Entertainment presents an EDM and live instrumentation showcase featuring DJ Tactic, Culmination & Friends, and headliners Helicopter Showdown, who have been dubbed the "Wu-Tang Clan" of bass music. The event will also feature performance artists as well as cash prizes for Best Costume. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door and more information can be found here.
