This week has flown by for me! I had a great time at the Rowe Fashion show- you can check out my recap here. I also met with local designer, Erica Dawn Woodmore (you can check out her facebook page, here), who's going to be my partner-in-crime for Columbus' HighBall Halloween Costume Couture Showdown, here! That, plus I am designing costumes for two local theatre productions, one starting in October and the other November, so my plate is pretty full right now and literally all I think about is fashion and costumes, which is definitely not a bad thing! :) And so, to take a little break from designing, here are some links I've loved this week...
1. Falling for Fall
This has been one of the best weekends in a long time- pumpkin spice latte in hand, bundled up in a blanket, watching football with Zach. For those of you have heard my feelings about summer, you won't be surprised that the first hint of fall makes my heart sing! And I can't imagine a better place to be for the changing of the leaves than Ohio, am I right? If you are as big a fan as I am, than you, too, will love this article on Experience Columbus showcasing the Top 3 Fall Hikes in Central Ohio.
A romantic landscape that also happens to be free and cardiovascular...win, win, win!
2. DIY Garment Rack
Is your closet too small to house you ever-growing wardrobe? Need a little more storage space? Who doesn't, right? My solution of choice is this simple and super-cool DIY Garment Rack from Smitten Studio. I love the industrial look and I really love the affordability factor...
And don't you just love the styling/products in this photo? Well, you can nab some of that graphic style for yourself with the product line by Smitten Studio's Sarah Sherman Samuel, A Sunny Afternoon.
3. Zara's Fall 2013 Collection is Like, So Totally 90's
I don't know why, but I didn't used to like Zara even half as much as I do now. I used to find it a little too utilitarian for my color- and pattern-loving aesthetic. But lately, it is slowly creeping up my favorites list. They've got great designs and a super-affordable price point, and with their latest collection, my friendship with the brand is turning into a full-on major crush. Check out all this rad 90's style...
Mixed-print ditsy floral dresses. A slip dress group reminiscent of the Supermodel era. Ultra-chic, minimalistic neutrals. And jackets- including one of the coolest shapes I've seen- in lumberjack plaid. It's a 90's smorgasbord and this girl is biting!
4. Braids are...Back?
I keep seeing fashion stories about braids being back. Sure, they're back and better than ever, and that's exciting. But I was never really sold that they were out. Auf weidersehened. And at least not for long enough to need to proclaim a comeback? But regardless of if they are back or never lost their cool, the point remains that braids are one of the best ways to add personality to your hair (especially if it's dirty), and a bevy of new braid styles is always something to be excited about. So if you read any of the same publications as myself (and since you're currently reading this fashion blog, I'm going to assume that you do), your inbox has been overflowing with Fashion Week news. So you loved the Spring 2014 Proenza Schouler show- but did you know it is pronounced skool-er? And that the e in Rodarte is not silent, but pronounced as a long a? I mean, if we're going to spend time studying the shows and reading about the new trends, we might as well sound as smart as we are when we talk about it, right? This article from the archives of The Gloss is a good guide for pronouncing many common designer names. Or watch this cute video from Vancouver Fashion Week to learn what not to say. Let's all aspire to be the older woman near the end. imˈpresiv/!
Well, that's it for this week's roundup! I hope you all have had as great of a weekend as I have! And I'm polling for the week: what is your favorite thing about fall fashion? Tell me in the comments and you might see a feature on your favorites in the future!
