Random Weekly Roundup #13

The Weekly Roundups have been missing from the blog lately. In fact, this is my first one at all for October, and I usually do one every week. Well, I have to say I've missed it, as these are often my favorite posts, but October has been one of the busiest, most stressful months of my life. It has been truly overwhelming, but also pretty amazing. I'm happy to say I've had a lot of costume design work lately, but it sure has made me miss my blog! I came into October full of all of these awesome Halloween ideas I wanted to show you guys, and really I've only been able to complete a couple of them. It's definitely made me realize how much this blog has become a true passion of mine. So I just wanted to take a minute to tell anyone reading this how much it means to me. Whether you're brand new or have been one of my consistent readers/commenters, you are supporting my passion and helping me live my dream, and for that, I can never really thank you enough! And now onto my Weekly Roundup, which I hope to never have to miss again!

1. Free People Coat Check

The best thing about colder temps? Throw a beautiful coat or jacket over even the most basic outfit and you automatically look amazing. And to me, nobody does lust-inducing, splurge-worthy outerwear better than Free People. Check out there entire outerwear collection at the Jacket Shop, here, or see some of my faves below...

 2. The Great Gatsby: Before & After VFX

Regardless of how you felt about the film (I loved it, for the record), it's hard to deny that Baz Luhrman's adaptation of The Great Gatsby was anything short of a visual masterpiece. Luhrman is known for his heavy-handed use of visual effects, but just how much of his stunning 1920s world is actually real and how much is fabricated? This video, released by VFX Supervisor on the film, Chris Godfrey, gives us a glimpse into the before and after, raising the curtain for a peak into the magic behind the movie. If you haven't seen it yet, you will be amazed at all of the stunning work. Enjoy!...

3. Banksy Takes NYC

You've probably heard about it, or maybe you were lucky enough to actually witness it, but Banksy's current residency in NYC, entitled "Better Out Than In," has been full of surprises, including a pop-up shop in Central Park where original signed Banksy canvases were sold for a mere $60 each. The British street artist is known (or really unknown, I guess I should say, as his true identity remains under wraps) for his witty and political graffiti pieces. Here are some of my favorites from "Better Out Than In"...

With only a few days left- the residency ends on October 31st- I can't wait to see what note he's going to end it on. Curious, also? See all of the works from the residency, here.

4. Mastering the Coffee Table

One of my favorite bloggers, Cassie of Hi Sugarplum!, is a master of home décor DIYs. She is always posting brilliant tips for beautifying your space that actually apply to real life (re: a budgeted life). One of her recent posts, How to Style Coffee Tables (1 Table, 6 Ways), is full of some of the most beautiful and easy-to-incorporate ideas for creating a perfect tabletop display that I have ever seen. Bookmark it, my friends. These ideas are ones you're going to want to keep...

Oh, and did I mention she's also incredibly funny? Yeah, you should probably just go ahead and subscribe...

5. Domino is Back!!!

I cannot fully express with words how excited I was to discover that my all-time favorite home décor magazine, Domino, is back in all its glossy-covered glory! Here are some photos from the first edition, the Holiday issue...

domino

domino2domino3Pretty beautiful, right? My rollercoaster high was brought down just a little due to the discovery that the magazine will only be issued quarterly, but they're making up for it with a beyond-amazing online presence. Check out what I'm talking about, here. And if you want to know what I'll be doing immediately following this post, it's devouring the Holiday issue of Domino. I can't wait!

And thus concludes this week's (and I suppose, for the sake of making up lost time, this month's) Random Weekly Roundup! Oh how I've missed you! I promise to never leave you behind again...
