Random Weekly Roundup #14

I usually do this post on Sundays, but with Veteran's Day, I feel like the weekend technically just ended. And boy did I need an extra day! I had a week, that's for sure. Do you ever have such an unlucky day/week/month that you start to feel cursed? Sometimes it doesn't matter how much you work hard or plan ahead. Sometimes it's just all going to go wrong anyway. And I think it's hard, as someone who tries to stay generally positive and optimistic, not to feel down in these times, or to feel like you've somehow earned the negative karma points. The best way I've come up with to combat "storm cloud" days is to try and think of any and all things that are going right. And I don't care if the only thing you can think of to be thankful for is that your socks fit your feet well- taking time to acknowledge that even the very small things are going right can be a game changer. That and finding something really ridiculous to laugh at- watching Anchorman, talking to your most hilarious friend, etc. Or sometimes, it's compiling your favorite internet finds from the week. Read on for some things that have brought sunshine my otherwise stormy week...

1. Party Down with Anthropologie & Urban Outfitters

I was so excited to see that my regular updates this week from two of my favorite stores were so beautifully party-centric. First up, learn how to arrange the most amazing fall bouquet at the Anthro blog...

Are you ready to get puke green with envy? This post from Because I'm Addicted featuring a peak inside the studio of Emily Current and Meritt Elliot's LA Studio nearly made my head explode from all of the beautiful design elements. Here are a few of my favorites...

3. The Jennifers and Ashleys Take Over the World

When I was in elementary school, I would always have at the very least 2 other Ashleys in my classes. Which means that roughly 20% of the female population my age at that time had the same name as me, and it used to drive me crazy. I even grew up with an Ashley whose last name was only different then mine by one letter, which meant if we ended up in class together, I had to write my entire name on everything for the whole year. I know, second grade problems, right? But silly stuff like that is so important when you are that age. But really, to be honest, it still kind of drives me crazy having one of the most popular names. Even if I'm calling someone I know fairly well, I always have a 20 second inner battle while the phone rings about whether or not to say Ashley or Ashley Wills, the former being to vague and the latter being too formal. Maybe you're one of those people I used to envy, with some exotic name that is both unique to you and memorable for everyone else. Or maybe you are a Mary, Lisa, Jennifer, Ashley, Brittany, or Jessica, and you know what it's like to be one of the masses. Not sure where you fall? Check out this name map from Pulse News that shows the most popular names in each state since 1960. It's pretty fascinating how something as personal as names are determined by sweeping trends.
