This week I told you all about my nephew starting school and talked about the "back-to-school" fall-clothing-obsessed mentality of the fashion industry, a devoted tribe whose be-all and end-all high holiday happens to be fall fashion week. I shared some of my favorite back-to-school style items, with a very classic, very collegiate, take on the idea- but there's definitely more variations on this idea than ivy league prep alone. I can't even really think about back-to-school style without my brain automatically referencing the epitome of high school fashion films, Clueless. The plaid skirt suits! The candy-colored faux fur! The matching gum! So this edition of Splurge vs. Steal is my own take on a 2013 version of a Cher Horowitz back-to-school ensemble. And, if you can believe it, you don't need a Beverly Hills bank account to look like a "total Betty"- it's true, one of the columns is a whopping $7,085!...but the nearly identical version, head to toe, comes in at only $398! Say what?!
How sharp is your style eye? Can you tell which is the splurge and which is the steal?
