Alternative Fashion Week, is just around the corner and so for me, that meant spending this past weekend styling a local band, The Salty Caramels, at a photo shoot for an upcoming AFW event, Face Melting for Fashion. We shot at the Idea Foundry, which is an awesome warehouse space that houses local artists and organizations, including the Alternative Fashion Mob.
It always impresses me whenever I outfit people how willing they are to relinquish control over their look. It blows my mind because I don't think I could ever do that. Like at all. I don't even like to get my hair or makeup done by someone else. But I always find it pretty inspiring when other's can- there's a certain level of confidence in one's own sense of self to hand over the styling reigns. Would you let someone dress you and pick out your hair and makeup? I'd love to hear your responses in the comments section. It's a very fascinating topic to me.
And while we're talking about styling and self-image, I'm especially excited to tell you about an upcoming event, the Macy's Fashion Show with plus-sized supermodel Emme this Saturday, 2-4, at Macy's Tuttle Crossing. I'll be there checking out the season's hottest looks and getting tips on how to flatter my curves straight from Emme herself. After the show, audience members will get a chance to pick the brain of a leading voice in the fashion industry and a globally recognized advocate for self-esteem at Emme's Q&A. Attendance is free with an RSVP through Eventbrite, refreshments will be provided, and you even have the opportunity to get an exclusive cosmetics travel bag with any Women's purchase of $75 or more (while supplies last). I hope to see you there!
And now a quick look at what's on my plate this week:
+ attend the Macy's & Emme fashion show
+ attend the AFW Opening Night fashion show
+ tour 1-2 more wedding venues
+ get the logo and site design completed for my dad's website
+ book/schedule blogger meetup
+ file my taxes (I know! I know!)
